Science diplomacy of France and Poland – cross views and research perspectives

Many states today claim science diplomacy in the exercise of their foreign policy. Within this rapidly expanding policy field, important research questions relate to the diversity of national approaches. In this context, the seminar will discuss recent theoretical and empirical research conducted on science diplomacy, with a particular focus on the experiences of France and Poland. The seminar should engage in comparative analysis, adopt a historical perspective and emphasize the normative and institutional-operational dimensions of the making of national models of science diplomacy.

The seminar will allow leading French and Polish scholars specializing in science diplomacy to meet and discuss in a collegial manner, which has never been done before. Moreover, science diplomacy practitioners’ perspective will be taken into account by associating to the discussions representatives of French and Polish science diplomacy institutions such as foreign affairs services, sectoral ministries responsible for education, research and innovation policy, executive agencies, academies of sciences to name some of the science diplomacy stakeholders.
