Forced migrations and migrants in the 21st century. Consequences of the Russian agression on Ukraine in the context of earlier episodes

The conference “Forced migrations and migrants in the 21st century. Consequences of the Russian agression on Ukraine in the context of earlier episodes” aims to foster the exchange of experiences and research findings regarding the situation of forced migrants in European Union countries, with a particular focus on individuals who fled Ukraine due to Russian aggression. The event will delve into a variety of key topics, including an analysis of their situation in European labor markets, the level and determinants of their general well-being, and the overall degree of integration with host societies.

Given the scale of this wave of forced migration and the protracted conflict, the situation calls for in-depth research on migrant integration, their position in the labor market (including issues of mismatch and underemployment), as well as their general well-being. The goal is to propose solutions for migration policy and support the optimization of social cohesion.

This conference will serve as an extension and expansion of cooperation within the framework of the project funded by the Foundation for Polish Science, titled Determinants of Labour-Market Performance and Well-Being of High-Skilled Ukrainian Refugees in Poland, as well as the Open Doors project. The exchange of views and strengthening of relationships during the conference will facilitate the creation of a consortium of universities capable of successfully applying for research grants within European programs focused on this topic.

Join us for a comprehensive discussion on the challenges and opportunities related to the migration crisis caused by the ongoing war, and how we can better address the needs and integration of forced migrants in Europe.

The event is organized by the Krakow University of Economics, Polish Academy of Sciences, and Polish Academy of Sciences Scientific Centre in Paris.
