Science across borders. The future of scientific diplomacy
Science is one of the most important areas of international cooperation today. By uniting researchers, institutions and societies from various countries, science promotes the advancement of knowledge, encourages innovation and facilitates dialogue and the exchange of experiences. In the face of dynamic global transformations, science’s significance extends beyond the academic sphere to influence relations between states. Scientific research has become an important tool for international dialogue, and international scientific cooperation is a pillar of social, economic and technological development. It is also a means of building trust, sharing expertise and developing strategically significant partnerships.
In today’s world, therefore, scientific relations are much more than a simple exchange of knowledge. They are increasingly seen as a vital way of strengthening a country’s international standing. In this context, science diplomacy, which connects the worlds of research, policymaking, and international cooperation, has become particularly important.
This conference will explore the role of science diplomacy in contemporary international relations, and the importance of science as a platform for dialogue, cooperation and building relationships between nations. The event will bring together representatives of the Polish and French scientific communities, research institutions and experts to collectively reflect on the future of science diplomacy in the face of global challenges.
The discussions will focus on the role of science in fostering international dialogue and enhancing national influence, and on the place of science diplomacy in foreign policy. Participants will discuss topics such as researcher mobility, international expert networks, the work of science attachés and collaboration between universities and research institutions. Particular focus will be given to the role of science as a form of ‘soft power’ and the practical tools employed in contemporary science diplomacy.
The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and the development of cooperation among scientific communities, while emphasising the importance of science as a universal language of dialogue and understanding in an ever-changing world.
